Could that possibly be because the situations teachers are being asked to work in are getting more crowded, more stressful, with less support every year? Hearing that teacher absenteeism is up doesn't surprise me at all. I'd be surprised if it wasn't! Perhaps if classes were smaller and less complex, administrators were less obtuse, and government was less focussed on teachers being the cause of everything wrong with public education, teachers wouldn't get sick as often.
