Summer Reading List?

Photo: YES!
From http://weareteachers.tumblr.com/post/79354872271

I have not read as much as usual the past few months... and as I see my 'reading list' get longer and longer, I am reminded that it is time to unplug, unwind, grab a cup of tea (or iced tea with this weather) and sit back to escape with a great book.

What is on your list?

Here are only a few from mine:

  • On Looking: Eleven walks with expert eyes - Alexander Horowitz
  • Outliers: Malcolm Gladwell
  • The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - steig larsson
  • We were liars - E. Lockhart
  • Jodi Picoult - anything by her - eventually I will have read them all
  • Janet Evanovich - I want to read the entire Stephanie Plum Series... I am only about half way
  • Fourth of July Creek - Smith Henderson
  • The Vacationers - Emma Straub
  • Outlander Series - Diana Gabaldon - This series comes highly recommended by friends
What am I missing? Please comment with suggestions below - I love YA and novels with interesting plot and well developed characters. Variety of genres.

BCTF New Teachers' Conference 2014

This weekend I attended the BCTF New Teachers' workshop with hundreds of new teachers, TTOCs and student teachers from across BC. I was presenting two workshops over the weekend and had the opportunity to connect in person with teachers I know through social media. It was also a chance to check out some amazing workshops and chat with new and soon-to-be colleagues as well as touch base with teacher friends I only see a few times a year at such events.

I am very much looking forward to the BCTF AGM in a few weeks where a number of these teachers and more will come together for our annual general meeting.

You can also check out some tweets from the New Teachers' Conference.

I compiled a few here.

Summer Reading.... and my love of YA novels

I love YA and found this article to be quite good:

I always claim I read YA to "keep in touch with my Middle Schoolers" but secretly, I just love it!

This summer I have a book shelf of novels to read, I am also doing a "book club" with the middle school girls I have tutored since they were little. Of course, I also have my kobo loaded up with some YA reads and some more adult reads too... Jodi Picoult, Janet Evanovich and such.

What is on your summer read list?
