Last Thursday I was with two colleagues visiting multiple middle schools to propose a new mentoring model for next year. Last Thursday was also the day lay off letters went out in our district. The three of us got our lay off notices and felt extremely depressed.
That evening, my friend and colleague had a brilliant idea... she was upset at the severity of the cuts in our district and wanted to do something. She wanted to plan a rally. I was feeling completely drained and had no idea where she found the inspiration and strength to try this, but she did. Although a huge undertaking, she was passionate, and I supported her.
Less than 5 full days later, her idea became a successful reality. 400+ parents, teachers, community members came together to line Como Lake from Hilcrest Middle to Charles Best Secondary... it was... amazing!
